Stabilizer
bar belongs to the car's suspension system. Anti-sway bar
or anti-roll bar is its second name. Its function is to keep
the car's body steady while in a sharp turn. While in a turn
the car is forced to put more weight on the outside tires
and less weight on the inside tires due to centrifugal effect.
Negative influence on steering is obvious under the case.
What we really want to do is to remain the car's weight staying
distributed evenly on all four tires. A stabilizer bar exists
for this demand. It works by moving force from one side of
the car's body to another to keep it flat. When the car mounted
with stabilizer goes into a turn, the front suspension member
of the outside of the turn gets pushed upward. The arm of
the sway bar gets pushed upward, and this applies torsion
to the rod. The torsion moves the arm at the other end of
the rod, and this causes the suspension on the other side
of the car to compress as well. The car's body tends to stay
flat in the turn.
